Who is David Conrad?

Secondary Trauma - David ConradDavid Conrad has been a clinical social worker for 36 years. He has worked in a variety of settings including juvenile justice, adult corrections, hospital social work, adoptions and child welfare. From 1994-2000, he was Director of Programs for the CIVITAS Child Trauma Program in Houston, Texas. CIVITAS was founded by Dr. Bruce Perry a child psychiatrist and national expert on child trauma. From 1997-2000, David was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Since 2000, David has been a Senior Instructor with JFK Partners/Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and a consultant on secondary trauma for the Colorado Division of Child Welfare. As a consultant, he has assisted Colorado child welfare workers with their acute trauma while providing trauma prevention training.

Since beginning his work in secondary trauma 14 years ago, he has spoken on the topic at state and national conferences in 20 states. He co-authored a study that appeared in the October 2006 issue of the journal, Child Abuse & Neglect, titled, Compassion Fatigue, Burnout and Compassion Satisfaction Among Colorado Child Protection Workers.

David has been married for 17 years to his wife, Ann, who is a pediatrician. They have two sons.
